Band & Orchestra Festival
MSBOA’s Band and Orchestra Festival is held yearly for all music students grades 7-12. Like the solo and ensemble format, the students are rated with grades that transfer to an overall roman numeral rating I-V. The band travels to the host destination and arrives approximately one hour before their performance time. The band prepares three pieces which are evaluated by three performance judges. The first piece that is required of the band is a March. The second is a piece selected from the MSBOA music selection list and the third piece is a piece of the band’s choice. The bands work hard throughout the winter months preparing for this performance. After the band performs their three selections, they move to another room for the sight-reading portion of the evaluation. Once the band is settled in front one sight-reading judge, the band has 7 minutes to look at a march and an overture that the band has never seen. After the 7 minutes is up, the band plays the music for the judge and a room filled with Ludington parent spectators! Our bands have been very successful at this festival for many years. Band festival is something the students look forward to all year long.
